For years, I struggled with understanding myself and finding my path, having been diagnosed with autism at 26. That diagnosis explained the 26 years of fumbling in the dark, going from one doctor to another, searching for answers that seemed elusive. Despite the challenges, those years taught me invaluable lessons about life and struggle. As an autistic individual, I’ve always been a problem solver. I view problems not as obstacles but as opportunities for solutions. Each problem encountered is a sign of progress. Standing still means no problems, but also no growth. Today, I’m sharing my journey and the 10 steps I designed to create success in my life.
1. Journaling Everything

Journaling has been transformative for me. I carry a small notebook where I jot down every emotion, thought, goal, and worry. This practice helps free my mind from the constant chatter and stress. By putting my thoughts on paper, I gain clarity and peace, making it easier to tackle daily challenges. Despite my dyslexia and terrible handwriting, this habit has been a game-changer.
2. Compounding Tasks
To overcome the overwhelming feeling of having too much to do, I started making a comprehensive list of all my tasks. From there, I choose just four items to focus on each day. This method, called compounding tasks, simplifies my to-do list and makes it more manageable. It has helped me stay organized and accomplish more, one step at a time.

3. Setting Timers
My iPhone and iPad are essential tools. I use them to set timers for every task, appointment, and project. This practice allows me to focus on the present task without worrying about what's next. Setting timers has helped me stay on track and manage my time more efficiently.
4. Focus Mode
Distractions are a constant battle, especially with ADHD. To counter this, I put my phone on silent and store it away while working, emulating the focus required in a cinema. This “cinema mode” ensures that I stay productive and minimize distractions.
5. Work and Job-Related Strategies
Finding and maintaining a job has been challenging. To address this, I listed all my skills—social media, video editing, music, writing, and research—and found ways to monetize them. Platforms like Fiverr and Craigslist helped me start small and build a sustainable income stream by freelancing.
6. Making Friends through Apps
Social media, especially Instagram and WhatsApp, has been instrumental in making friends and connecting with other autistic individuals. These platforms help me find like-minded people, offering a sense of community and support. Additionally, meditation apps have helped me manage stress and calm my mind.
7. Attending Events
Attending events like Summer in the City, VidCon, and Comic Cons has been vital. These gatherings allow me to connect with others who share my interests and understand my world. Being among my tribe at these events makes me feel at home and boosts my confidence.
8. Self-Belief
Believing in myself was a major hurdle. I shifted my mindset to realize that if others can achieve great things, so can I. This newfound self-belief empowered me to pursue my goals with determination and confidence.
9. Building Confidence
Building confidence is crucial for presenting ourselves effectively and tackling challenges. I spent time developing my confidence through various means, understanding its importance in achieving success.
10. The Sensory Diet
Learning about the sensory diet from an occupational therapist was profound. This involves activities that activate deep muscles and improve proprioception, such as wall push-ups, short walks, or even household chores. Engaging in these tasks every two hours helps manage sensory processing issues and enhances overall well-being.
Conclusion
These 10 steps have been instrumental in creating a productive and fulfilling life, despite the challenges of autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and OCD. By implementing these strategies, I’ve turned my traits into superpowers, achieving success and peace of mind.
